Mountain View #244’s degree team, assisted by members of True Fellowship, hosted the First Degree on April 30th for Kersten Stanley-Jones of Mountain View, Miles Wolf and Ben Holden of True Fellowship #52 and Taylor Patrick of Mission Peak #114.
We were delighted to have our Noble Grand, Katy Dickinson, back in town just in time to join the degree, if a little jet-lagged from visiting her new grandbaby on the east coast.
The regular upstairs meeting area of Mountain View 244 is under renovation, so the degree was held in the downstairs dining/multipurpose room. This presented a challenge, as usually the downstairs is where our candidates meet and socialize ahead of the degree while the team runs lines upstairs. Since the team wasn’t prepared for holding the degree downstairs, not only did they need to run lines, but also figure out and rehearse new blocking, which led to some great innovations and amusing hurdles. Candidates had to find other places to be until it was time to begin, but they were good sports about it.
When it was time to perform the actual degree, the team consisted of Jane Beckman, Victor Gonsalves, Mason Wolf, Debra LaVergne, Scott Spence, Jesse Donaldson, Sunday Donaldson, Debbie Wolf, Katy Dickinson, and Tatiana Kuvaldina. And it was a good degree! No one missed their cues, blocking was mostly okay, lines were delivered well enough. And most importantly, the lessons of friendship were transmitted on to the newest members of the degree.
