Hawaiian Culture and Hula in Cupertino

Aloha! Renowned Kumu Hula Meleana Manuel from Volcano, Hawai’i, returned to Lodge 70 for the 8th time to teach hula workshops on March 11 and perform a Hawaiian music concert on March 13. A “kumu hula” is an officially recognized teacher of Hawaiian dance whose expertise includes dances of ancient and modern times; Hawaiian history and language; and cultural protocols. Kumu Mele is an exemplary dancer and instructor who graciously shares her knowledge and the deep meanings of Hawaiian songs. She opened a branch of her hula school (hālau) in Cupertino at Lodge 70 last March, led by Sister Karen Sanico.

Watch for notices of her future visits at Lodge 70! Ā hui hou…until we meet again!
